After a year of restrictions, our annual village picnic finally returned yesterday, and we must say what a fantastic day it was too! It was lovely to see our grounds full of people and families chatting, laughing, and having so much fun. Nutty Noah was an absolute hit, and it was beautiful to watch all the children laughing after so much disruption to their lives. Our wondering magician Paul Preager wowed everyone with his close up magic. Everyone was so impressed with Paul that he had given us an idea for a new event, and we think you’re going to like it. As always, Kia and her circus skills went down a treat, and it was great to see so many adults getting involved and having so much fun with the hula hooping and stilts. Long Ashtons Youth Club did a fantastic job organising the graffiti workshop, arts and crafts zone on the recreation ground and the refreshments they served in the Club Room. The cream teas went down exceptionally well. Long Ashton Football Club, did a great job of keeping the adults watered from the beer tent and have kindly donated some of the proceeds to us. And let’s not forget DJ Dave, who was a legend by setting the tone and kept the party mood going with some fantastic tunes. Our feedback has been overwhelming, and we cannot thank you enough for your support. Take a look at just some of the comments we have received. “Nutty Noah was hilarious. He was a bit risky, but I haven’t laughed so much in ages. My children loved him.” – John.

“I have never seen a close-up magician before. I was watching him the whole time and couldn’t work out how he did the tricks. He was amazing.” – Tom.

“I really enjoyed swooshing the ribbons to the music. I had so much fun.” – Tania.

“There is such a great atmosphere. The DJ is brilliant.” – Beatrice.

“Graffiti with Steve was the best part for me.” – Simon.

“The burgers were phenomenal.” – David.

“I really enjoyed yesterdays picnic, sitting in the sun with neighbours. It was well organised with lots to see and do. I loved the cream teas.” – Anne.

Our management team would like to thank everyone for coming and also say a HUGE thank you to our caretakers and volunteers. Without them, we would not be able to hold such fantastic events. We would also like to thank the Long Ashton Parish Council for helping us fund the event through their Bounceback Fund and for helping us all learn more about the Council with their ‘What the Frog’ game. There is one other team we would like to thank, and they are from the bouncy castle hire company – PlaySafe. They did a great job of keeping everyone safe on the inflatables, even though our caretakers did get a little carried away on the Gladiator Duel.

We have lots more events like this in the future, so please follow us on Facebook and add us to your favourites so you see all our updates.

We would like to leave the final word to Isobel, aged 6.

“It’s was the best day of my life.”
